Keep a position notebook

Set up a position from your own game or a source you may use. Record whose turn it is and verify the position before analyzing. Write one candidate move and explain the idea in words.

Look for the opponent's replies instead of recording only your intended continuation. Mark uncertain lines and check them later. A clear explanation is more useful than a long variation you cannot reconstruct.
